Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham has completed 14 glorious years in the industry breaking tons of records and grossing popularity only a few movies get to talk about. However, the zeal and enthusiasm with which fans still get hooked to their TV sets when the movie plays, makes you wonder if the movie just released. The love for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham or K3G, as fans lovingly call it, will undeniably continue for years to come. This epic film gives Bollywood fans several reasons to repeatedly watch it over the years. The star studded cast, an emotionally gripping storyline, beautiful dance performances and songs, and most importantly Karan Johar’s direction finesse.

K3G was Director Karan Johar's next film after his debut with the blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The expectations were very high for K3G and the film met every expectation. The film had a good story, great technicians, wonderful music and arguably the biggest star-cast since SHOLAY. Getting such a star studded cast together to deliver such an explosive performance can purely be attributed to the brilliance of the then budding director, Karan Johar. His masterly touch and craftsmanship can be clearly seen in each sequence of the film.

The story of the film is beautifully intertwined with emotional lessons, which relate to the typical Indian family. The film revolves around Yashovardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife Nandini (Jaya Bachchan) and their two sons Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) and Rohan (Hrithik Roshan). Yashovardhan and his wife Nandini have raised their sons showering them with immense love and affection. Yash has tried to pass on to his sons the values, the heritage and the rich traditions of his family, which he cherishes and holds in great regard. Rahul’s adoption was a kept for a long time, but ever since he found out, his love and affection for his parents, especially his father grew ten-folds more. And he swore to go by his father’s every word and never let him down. Unfortunately Rahul is disowned by his father for marrying the wrong girl, Anjali (Kajol). Rahul and Anjali then move to London, where 10 years later Rohan tracks them down in an attempt to re-unite the family. Along the way a romance buds between Rohan and Anjali's younger sister, Pooja (Kareena Kapoor).
Amitabh Bachchan looks his role and lives his role. He's just outstanding and the character required the star presence of the Big B. Jaya Bachchan is terrific and she looked terrific. She's excellent and her scene before the ending sequence with Amitabh Bachchan was thoroughly aplaudworthy! Hrithik Roshan shines through his scenes and even though he's really mainly in the second half of the movie – he leaves a great impression. Kareena Kapoor’s portrayal of the bubbly and energetic Pooja, was a mix of adorable and perfection. The supporting cast such which included actors like Johnny Lever and Alok Nath left no stones unturned in making this film a delightful experience. However, K3G would be incomplete without the lead pair. Shahrukh and Kajol not only steal the scenes but also you hearts. Sharukh is lovable, he's charismatic, and he’s insanely good. Kajol looks amazing and her performance is just perfect.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll think of your parents many a times. Certain scenes will remain in your memory for their emotive qualities long after the film is over. However, the most dramatic scene is in the second half at the mall when Nandini recognizes her son Rahul. The background music, the emotions of the two actors…..the on-screen touching narrative is simply spellbinding! That scene alone says that ultimately, your biggest connection is with your mother and that will never go away. This in addition to touching scenes like Anjali’s father dying, which has a strong impact on the viewer, Anjali and Rahul’s son, Krishi, reciting the Indian National Anthem; The reciting of the words of wisdom from Krishi to Rahul that came from Yash to Rahul, the discovery thereafter that Rahul’s houseguest is none other than his own brother. These are only some of the scenes that combined with an awesomely emotive background score; something Karan Johar obviously knew the importance of, will touch the viewer sincerely. The chemistry between all the actors is always larger than life and as a viewer, you’re always gripped to their individual stories. The strong father and son bond, the friendly relationship between the mother and her son, are all sentiments every Indian family aspires for and easily relate to.

The film is about relationships in family, about loving your parents and your family, about pride, values and regret. The well defined and written characters are used to create and present all these qualities. Even the least emotional scenes are accompanied by orchestrated violins, heavy piano and strikingly sad pictures on-screen. The film shows both the bright and dark sides of happy families, and while it never breaks new ground, never looks totally authentic, it is always entertaining in spite of its flaws. It depicts both the Indian traditional world and the western modern world and tries to bring them together in many instances.

This movie is truly a work of art, with a detailed emphasis on dazzling costumes, magnificent buildings, glitzy cars, tons of emotions. Karan Johar is a master at extracting the exact emotion that he wants from the viewer. You cannot help but weep or cry at various scenes, even though you see them coming a mile away. Never have we witnessed such an emotional family storyline packaged in such a powerful way. The music is just remarkable. Songs like Shava Shava, Suraj Hua Madham and the title track Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham sung by Lata mangeshkar is a pure musical marvel. What’s more, each song was accompanied with dazzling dance performances, which are a visual treat at all times. Hrithik’s dance moves till date leave viewers breathless.

These are just a handful of the many reasons why fans till date religiously sit in front of their TV sets, sometimes with a box of tissues, to watch their most beloved film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. And if you haven’t seen the film yet, do yourself a favour and add a lot of Khushi in your life by watching one of the most epic films to be made in Bollywood.

Shaandaar Gets Shaandaar Reviews

After the much loved film Queen, director Vikas Bahl is back with a bang with Dharma Productions’ Shaandaar. The film truly lives up to its name with sprawling sets, grand locations and amazing cinematography. This movie, which is Bollywood’s first destination wedding film, unites three members of the Kapoor Family – Pankaj Kapur, Shahid Kapoor and Sanah Kapoor. The protagonists – Jagjinder and Alia – have insomnia and the movie touches upon the effects of this condition. Sanah Kapoor plays Isha who is the bride and Alia’s half sister.

The picturesque locations of Shaandaar took everyone’s breath away. Shahid and Alia Bhatt’s spellbinding chemistry impressed one and all. No wonder they earned the nickname ‘Shalia’, coined by their fans, for themselves. The up-beat album of the film, too, caught on with the audiences. Another highlight of Shaandaar is Sanah Kapoor, who is a definitely a bundle of talent just like her gifted parents. Last but certainly not the least, one of the best parts of the movie is the deep bond between the two sisters and the quintessential father-daughter relationship.

Overall, Shaandaar proved to be a fun film with some amazing songs and some shaandaar performances. Have you watched it yet?

We celebrate this day by reminiscing the memorable songs and zingy dialogues from all Dharma movies. Gulaabo From Shaandaar - The Perfect Spinster Party Song

The upbeat number Gulaabo, from Shahid Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Shaandaar, is out for everyone to enjoy. This quirky song is produced by Dharma Productions and the beats are composed by the brilliant music director Amit Trivedi. The funky lyrics are by Anvita Dutt. This song is already on everyone’s mind because of the swagger in its tune. Gulaabo here is referred to Shahid’s sister Sanah Kapur, who is making her debut in Bollywood.

This is one of those songs that you will listen to on loop. There are jazzy bits in the song that adds a sensuous feel. Set in a rustic barnyard amidst barrels of booze and beer tankards, this song feels like the perfect spinster party song! All the dancers along with Shahid and Alia are dressed in suits and accessorized with pencil moustaches and fedoras. A poster of femme fatal Jessica Rabbit pops in the background adding spunk to the video. Vishal Dadlani and Anusha Mani have brought this song to life with their peppy voices.

Gulaabo is surely going to be a popular choice at all bachelorette parties, house parties and weddings due to the feel and lyrics. The trailer of the film has already created a lot of buzz and this first song has got fans and Bollywood music lovers so much more excited. The beats are unique and fresh, and that gives it all the more reason to catch on like wild fire in no time!

Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly the smartest and fittest action hero of B-town. That charming smile and fit body never fails to steal the show. It is the Khiladi’s birthday today! As the actor turned 48 today he was swept-off by wishes from his fans, colleagues and well-wishers. Akki is one of the most hardworking and perseverant actors Bollywood has today. He can be smart, goofy and sexy all with the same amount of ease and style.

He is one actor who can match the Khans in their stardom as well as box office numbers. Born as Rajiv Hari Bhatia, Akshay began his acting career in 1991. Since then, he has come a long way to established himself as an action hero and entertainer who is loved by the masses. He can amuse you with his power-packed, larger than life action scenes.

He has also played an intense role in his movie Brothers where he is seen doing a lot of Mixed Martial Arts. Brothers, directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Dharma Productions, Lionsgate Films and Endemol India, showcases Akki as David, a physics teacher, who gets into street fights to arrange money for his daughter who is suffering from a fatal ailment. A Tribute To The Greatest Teachers In Bollywood

It’s Teacher’s Day today! A day when we recollect school days, connect with our mentors and miss the bittersweet memories with our teachers. Let’s talk about a few filmi professors! These are the brilliantly played characters that totally reminded us of our school and college days. Dharma Productions has given us several teacher-figures who left a lasting impression on our minds.

Our beloved principal Mr. Malhotra (Anupam Kher) in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai portrayed the image of a friendly and fun-loving college principal. This amicable teacher loved his students and always failed at his attempt to be strict with the spoilt brats. However, the flamboyant Ms. Briganza (Archana Puran Singh) kept the college pepped-up and entertained. She was the Miss-high-heel-and-short-skirt of the college who was admired by every boy, including Mr. Malhotra! I’m sure we’ve all had such funny and glitzy teachers in our lives.

Another kind of teacher is the guy who is strict and has a veiled concern. Dean Yogendra Vashisht (Rishi Kapoor) in Student Of The Year is the perfect example of that. He will scold you, challenge you, warn you, shout at you, but he means well. That is why when he falls sick and lies on his death bed, all his students come running for a glimpse of him. Dean was someone who prepared his students for the competitive world. Haven’t our school and college teachers always strived to do that for us?

Some other inspirational teachers from Dharma movies include David (Akshay Kumar), a physics teacher, in Brothers and Coach Shah (Ronit Roy), a sports teacher, in Student Of The Year. These characters were brought to life by amazing actors and a great storyline. They are reel-life teachers who made us miss our real-life teachers.

Celebrating 69 years of Independence Dharma style

The Indian Independence Day is celebrated throughout the country on 15th August every year with great splendor, joy and respect for our country. There are a number of cultural programmes that are organized on this day, and children love to watch and participate in such events. Independence Day is dedicated to all those brave leaders and freedom fighters who fought relentlessly for their nation’s freedom.

Independence Day is a very patriotic day for every Indian citizen. It tells us that no matter which country you go to or where you stay, you will always have Indian blood running through your veins. It teaches us never to forget the soil we were born on. A great example is from the film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, where the vibrant Anjali (Kajol) keeps on urging the family to sing the National Anthem even though they are staying in another country. She believes that even though they are in a different country, they should never forget the rich heritage they are born in, and that they should be proud of it.

So, why don’t we all do our bit by respecting what this lovely nation has given us. Jai Hind!

‘Brothers’ is hitting it big at the screens!

Dharma Productions’ ‘Brothers’, which hit the theaters today, is already being showered with applauses and raving reviews for several reasons.

Having waited for the family drama for a long time, the audiences are overwhelmed with the power-packed action, the thrill, and the light-hearted romance between the leading couple David (Akshay Kumar) and Jenny (Jacqueline Fernandez).

The martial arts induced action is worth a mention here and the efforts both the lead actors have employed to shoot the scenes are inspiring to the core. The movie captures the lives of two estranged brothers, David (Akshay) and Monty (Sidharth), giving the audience a glimpse of their blood against blood story.

Jacqueline is as sweet as ever in her very first non-glamorous role. Her acting on screen is totally stunning, leaving the audience awed by her performance. Also, in supporting roles, we see Jackie Shroff, Shefali Shah, and Ashutosh Rana in focal positions in the story.

The cherry on the cake is the absolutely mesmerizing item number ‘Mera Naam Mary Hai’ performed by Kareena Kapoor Khan who looks sizzling hot!

Watch ‘Brothers’ for the sheer grandiosity of the performances that will leave you speechless.

Happy Friendship Day

Friends always bring happiness and fun to our lives. They can liven up any situation. They know when we’re upset and try their best to cheer us up. All our friends play a very crucial role in our lives and every relationship grows on the foundation of true friendship. Who better to portray this strong bond of friendship than the beautiful films showcased by Dharma throughout the years?

Nothing captures true friendship other than Bollywood films like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Dostana’,’ Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Student Of The Year’, they showcase the untainted and long lasting friendship of Rahul and Anjali, Sameer and Kunal, Bunny and Naina and Rohan and Abhi respectively. These films teach us that friends are dime a dozen but there is always that one friend that takes a special place in our hearts. These films make us believe that true friendship does not only exist in books and just as any other relationship has its ups and downs, so does it happen with your best friend. That does not mean that he/she hates you, it just shows the amount of love and care they exude towards you. Dharma films teach us to be understanding towards our friends and always have their back no matter how difficult the situation is.

If this makes you feel nostalgic, it’s time you pick up the phone and call the Rahul/Anjali, Bunny/Naina in your life and tell them how much you mean to them. Adios amigo

My Father My Coach

There is no bigger hero in our lives than our father. We grow up following him and yes, having him around has always boosted our morale. So, this Father’s Day, we at Dharma Productions, asked our fans to share the best advice they’ve received from their father and here’s what few of them had to say.

Never fear anything that destroys the body but fear wat destroys ur soul – Likha Mattam

Always keep calm first listen & then react! Try to tame your anger – Raj Saumye

Work hard n never give up, u r not a coward so believe in urself n prove urslf – Zoha Dolly

Bravo! Isn’t it just fantastic remembering the ageless advice ingrained in our minds by our fathers?

Our hearts are brimming with such sweet memories and so we think about all the fathers from Dharma movies who have proved to be the best fathers on the silver screen.

Who does not remember the iconic father figure from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham - Yashvardhan Raichand (Amitabh Bachchan)? A man of few words and emotions, he lives to embed family values in his kids so that they excel in life. It is either his way or the highway. Another absolutely loveable on-screen father is Ram Mehra (Anupam Kher) from Wake Up Sid who taught how discipline is the life-blood of success when it comes to being a cut above the rest.

This Father’s Day is all about living those memories that made us believe how our fathers are truly our life coach. And while you are at it, you may want to watch K3G or Wake Up Sid with your father and enjoy the day.

A successful director, an ardent fashion-lover, a mastermind at pop culture, a diligent judge in reality shows, the best friend of the top faces in Bollywood, and now, a classy actor, Karan sure is a man with many talents and his personality has something for each one of us to learn.

5 Ways To Beat The Summers

Everyone has fond memories of summer… from the school vacations, to the family trips that help you see the world in a different light. Often, there are times when we confuse ourselves too much and the summer ends up being a damp squib of sorts. To avoid such a mess, we at Dharma have 5 interesting options that will help you beat the summers in ways you have never imagined.

1. Go summer camping

Head out into the wilderness, and let your instincts and imagination take over. A summer camp is the perfect place to let loose and learn new things that no school will teach you. Appreciate the world out there and make new friends just like little Anjali did in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Seems fun, isn’t it?

2. Bring some adventure into your life

What’s life without a bit of adventure? With summer holidays in place, you have all the time in the world to give way to your adventurous self. Not only will it refresh you, but the experience of thrill will make you fall in love with life once again. And just in case you doubt us, ask Bunny, Avi, Aditi and Naina from ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ how much fun they had during their hiking trip in Manali.

3. Learn a new skill

Sure, summer is the time to be a free bird; but, some time can also be put aside for learning something new. Take up a hobby like painting, photography, etc. and nurture it, you may never know how it helps you in life. Who better than our very own Sid to tell you about that?

4. Try revamping yourself

Tired of the same old look and feel of the past year? Summers are the perfect time to get in on the act and change things around – be it your look, or your wardrobe. With vacation time, you can look into the latest developments in the fashion circuit and become a new and improved version. And inspiration is always nearby when Gippi is around.

5. Join in the celebrations

With summer holidays going on, most families term this as marriage season. So, if you are lucky enough to have one in your family or your friend circle, go out and have a blast like Abhimanyu, Shanaya and Rohan did at the latter’s brother’s wedding. Take this opportunity to enjoy, as such moments come few and far between.

Gippi completes 2 Years!

Indian cinema has had its fair share of glorious moments, moments that have left an indelible mark on the minds of the people. Some performances and movies have broken the norms laid down by society. ‘Gippi’ was one such movie. Dharma is known for its out of the box thinking, and this was another attempt at establishing the same.

With its unique story centered on a school girl’s journey of self discovery, the audiences were in for a surprise as this was a one of a kind story. It was the first time that a movie was focused on the problems of teens. It gave all the teens and the parents a new perspective about how difficult it is to be a teenager in today’s world. Not only that, it brought to light the important subject of fat shaming that is common amongst teenagers.

The way Gippi fights her inner demons and the awkward feelings that she has is worth noticing. Although her love life and studies are not in the best of conditions, she finds a way to turn things around. A big part in this transformation is played by her cool mother who always supports her during her tough times. The way she backs Gippi during her coming of age days and gets her out of the troubled love life phase is something that every parent must make a note of.

As with every Dharma movie, Gippi also had fabulous music. The compositions of Vishal-Shekhar and the lyrics of Anvita Dutt Guptan worked their magic on the audiences. All the songs went on to become people’s favourites.

But, this didn't end here as the movie also received critical acclaim for touching hearts and successfully executing an unusual tale about the triumph of the underdog.

Two years have gone by, but the story and its characters are still fondly remembered by one and all. We at Dharma wish the entire team of ‘Gippi’ a very happy 2nd movie anniversary and continued success for many more years to come.

Happy Mother’s Day

It won’t be too over the top to say, “Mother is love, mother is life”. The person that has seen your first cry and smiled, held your finger to help take your first steps is the beloved mother. There are so many memories that one can recollect, so many reasons to be grateful about. On this auspicious day, Dharma looks back at the on-screen mothers that have given Indian cinema some of its epic silver screen moments.

When we talk about mothers in Dharma movies, the first name that comes to mind is Nandini Raichand played by Jaya Bachchan. Nandini Raichand’s love for her elder son Rahul is the stuff of legends. Who can forget the epic scene where she senses Rahul’s arrival and stands at the doorstep to welcome him?

Jaya Bachchan added the much needed depth to the character and it was loved by audiences across the world.

If Nandini Raichand was the matriarch, then Sameer’s mom in ‘Dostana’ played by Kirron Kher had people in splits with her humorous yet cool depiction of a Punjabi mom. The way she sacrifices her dreams for Sameer’s happiness is a quality that is to be found in every mother, and women could relate to it.

The word mother and care go hand in hand, and who knows it better than Aman’s mother in ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ who maintains a smile on her face even when she knows her son is terminally ill. With that she gave her son the much needed strength to face the tough situation he was in.

A mother is the lady for all occasions in a man’s life and when the going gets tough, the mother is the one who stands firmly behind her children. Mrs. Khanna, Rahul’s mother in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ provided the much needed support to Rahul after he suffered Tina’s loss. Not just that, she also took care of little Anjali and gave her the motherly love which she so dearly needed.

Each aspect of mothers is unique and when it comes to Indian moms, melodrama can’t be far away. Ask Krish Malhotra who had a tough time getting his mother to accept Ananya as her daughter-in-law.

Needless to say, every mother in the world is special and one should cherish that fact. We at Dharma salute them and wish each one of them a very Happy Mother’s Day.

17 Years of Duplicate

In its rich history, the Hindi film industry has seen famous double roles being played by the biggest of stars. Each of these stories has been etched into our minds and is fondly remembered. One such movie that captivated the audiences with its witty and humorous rendition was ‘Duplicate’.

The movie cashes in on the successful formula of duplicates stuck in their own worlds and how they come face to face and what changes it brings about. The king of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan played the roles of both Bablu and Manu. He was ably supported by the beautiful Juhi Chawla and the pretty Sonali Bendre who played the roles of Sonia and Lily respectively. With a star cast like that, the movie was able to captivate the audience and ended up being termed as a laugh riot.

While the general trend of movies having double roles is to have a happy ending with both doppelgangers uniting, trust Dharma to be different and look beyond the norms. The villainous Manu isn’t redeemed and his grey shades add the much needed twist to the plot.

With such an amazing mix of talent, the nominations and awards were sure to follow. Juhi Chawla was named the Most Sensational Actress for her amazing role in the flick.

The years have since rolled on since the film’s release but it still tickles the funny bone of audiences across the world. We wish the entire team of ‘Duplicate’ a very happy anniversary and continued success in the years to come.

9 Reasons Why Every Guy Needs A Girl Best Friend

Friendship between a guy and a girl is not frowned upon anymore and in fact they can be the best friends possible. Surprised? Don’t be, because we will give you 9 reasons you’ll totally agree with.

1. She understands girls

Any guy, who has a girl best friend, will swear by this fact. A girl best friend knows the tricks that girls use. Having a girl best friend means you know the inner details which help you go ahead in the race to get the one you like. Vice versa she can also advise you against choosing the spoilt apple.

2. She is mentally stable

Guys often have a habit of going off the handle. This is where a girl best friend with her calm demeanor comes into the picture and saves the day. Don’t believe us? Ask Sid, whose best friend Laxmi was always there when he needed the most.

3. Guys need that maternal affection
Guys crave for affection, and in testing times, a girl best friend is just the person a guy needs by his side, someone to soothe his nerves, like Neha did for both Kunal and Sameer in Dostana.

4. It is good to have a different opinion

Girls have a thought process that is different from most guys. When you are out of thoughts on certain issues, a girl best friend can instantly sweep in to provide a different perspective that might turn things around.

5. She is a great shopping partner

Whether it’s your Valentine’s Day gift or your own wardrobe needs a makeover, a girl best friend is the best company that a guy can have. She understands what’s best for you and unlike other girls has a genuine concern for your wallet.

6. You are never alone in a party

Come party time, you always need a partner you can rely upon. For those having a girl best friend means that you never have to worry about such a scenario.

7. Your parents trust her

If there’s anything that parents fear most, is their son going on the wrong path. With a girl best friend, they can be rest assured that he is in good company. The same way, Sameer’s mom trusted Neha to be with the former.

8. You can tease her all you want

Out of all the points mentioned, guys having a girl best friend will agree to this fact with much fervor. Teasing her just gets the guy the mood upswing that he needs. And all this, because she’s a better sport than any guy friend can ever be. Rahul in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai can vouch for that.

9. Arguments only strengthen their bond
Rahul and Anjali in KKHH argued over every little thing, but it just made their bond stronger. That kind of trust can only be there with a girl best friend because you know; the relationship will still be the same no matter what.

One Glorious Year Of 2 States

Dharma has had a long history of making movies that have a lasting impact on the minds of the people.

One such modern day classic is the movie 2 States - the love story of a North Indian boy and a South Indian girl – that enthralled the audiences and took them on an emotional ride that till date brings a smile on everyone’s face.

But all this started with a vision, a vision to give the audience an out of the box story to rejoice in. Karan Johar, the man at the helm of it all, thought of adapting the famous novel of the same name. From there on, the wheels were set in motion, the casting of the vivacious Alia Bhatt as Ananya and the dashing Arjun Kapoor for Krish Malhotra’s role added the much needed spice.

A full-fledged campaign was set in motion to reach out to people. The Facebook page and Twitter handle received instant engagement the moment they were started. Innovation was at the heart of this campaign. The curiosity generated by the release of the first trailer was taken to newer heights by the introduction of songs, songs which went on to become youth anthems. A whopping 4 million people liked the trailer in a matter of a week.

Hashtags like #ReasonsToDateANerd and #InCaseOfPrettyGirls also added a new dimension to proceedings with fans from all quarters giving in their own versions. A live chat session with the team of 2 States before the film’s release ensured that the fans got to speak with their favourite stars and ask them the nitty-gritty of the movie.

The entire buzz that was created pre-release got its due reward as the movie went on to become a massive success. It also crossed the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark and was loved by critics and audiences alike.

The awards and nominations followed suit with Abhishek Varman winning the Filmfare award for Best Debut Director, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy got the Filmfare award for the Best Music Director for their fantastic music. The lead duo of Ananya and Krish bagged the BIG Star Most Entertaining On-Screen Couple award. The film added another feather in its cap when it won the award for Best Film Marketing at the 21st Life OK Screen Awards.

The glorious journey has just completed its first year and we wish that you continue to love this epic tale of romance for many more years to come.

Friday Fever – Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' or KANK, as it is popularly known as, narrates the story of how two couples going through turbulent times in their marriages get another lease of life and gets an opportunity to start their lives anew. Maya(Rani Mukerji), who is married to her childhood friend, Rishi Talwar (Abhishek Bachchan), had met Dev Saran (Shah Rukh Khan) on her D-Day and both of them had hit off instantly after a deep conversation about love and life. They met again four years later when both their marriages are going through a dark patch. They find themselves start off from where they had left four years back, fall in love eventually and get into an extramarital affair, as a result of their own unhappy marital lives. Though both their marriages end in a divorce, followed by them deliberately wanting to stay away from each other, life surprises them when they meet again on the occasion of Rishi's marriage.

Despite dealing with a dark subject, the film instills a strong positivity with the thought that life does give us a second chance. It also leaves a message that a divorce does not necessarily end a relationship bitterly. Rishi, after his divorce from Maya, welcomes life with open arms, allows love into his life, decides to get married again, invites Maya to his wedding and resumes the friendship that they had shared since childhood.

KANK's unique storyline that true love in a marriage surpasses all, tugs at our heart strings and strikes a chord with the audience. Besides, the acting prowess of the cast of the film makes it a must-watch for lovers of good cinema across genres. It beautifully conveys that the compatibility of a couple is necessary to ensure that a marriage is successful. It presents a relevant message that an extramarital affair is not the solution to a failed marriage. Rather, it is best to be brutally honest to oneself and the spouse and embrace a new life. The modern take on the issues that the Y-Gen faces in the contemporary times make for a delightful watch.

Happy Birthday Jaya Bachchan!

The versatile and magnificent Jaya Bachchan celebrates her birthday today and we wish her a very happy birthday. The Bachchan matriarch turns 67 today. A power-packed performer, she has enthralled audiences over the years with her fabulous performances in movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Who can forget the character of Nandini Raichand, ideal mother in K3G? The doting mother who shares a very close bond with her sons, but stays in her husband’s shadow. The scene where she senses her son Rahul’s presence and opens the door before his arrival is deeply etched in every Dharma fan’s memory.

Her prowess and stature made her the perfect choice for the role, according to Karan Johar. The chemistry between her and Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and SRK brought about some memorable moments on screen. No wonder it was reflected in the awards, as she bagged the coveted Filmfare and IIFA Best Supporting Actress Award for her role.

We, at Dharma, hope that God showers her with all the good health and blessings on her birthday. May she continue to mesmerize us with her performances on screen. Once again, we wish her many happy returns of the day.

A Song For Every Mood

Human emotions are cherished at Dharma. The movies are known to highlight human emotions in ways that connect with people at a deeper level. One aspect that helps make this deep connect is the songs. And Dharma movies have one for every emotion. We pick out five such songs whose lyrics and music made you go on that emotional rollercoaster ride.

Chaandaniya

The love story of Krish and Ananya is perhaps aptly described in this song. The pain of separation is hard to bear and any couple who has been a part of such a situation could relate to the lyrics of the song. The tears in Krish’s and Ananya’s eyes are sure to make you sad. But, that’s the impact that the song has on you.

Suraj Hua Maddham

There is hardly a love story that is as intense as the one between Rahul and Anjali in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The young and vibrant Rahul romancing the vivacious Anjali is a sight most moviegoers still behold. And when ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’ was played, that fact was imprinted on people’s mind. Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik’s mesmerizing voice captivated the young and old.

Where’s The Party Tonight!

Every generation in Bollywood has had a party song of their own. KANK gave the current generation one when ‘Where’s The Party Tonight?’ came out. The DJs had it on their system and so did the general public. The duo of Rhea and Rishi showed how to part hard and have a ball as they grooved to the song’s tune.

Maahi Ve

In India, music and weddings go hand in hand. Over the years, many songs have been danced to during various wedding ceremonies. But, ‘Maahi Ve’ made sure that not just individuals but the entire family shook a leg or two and joined in the fun. The catchy lyrics and the peppy music provided a lethal combination to set people free of their inhibitions.

Deva Shree Ganesha

Lord Ganesha is one of the most loved Gods in the country. And Ajay-Atul’s composition ‘Deva Shree Ganesha’ captured the fervor of a religious activity to perfection. The song was played over and over again during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi and brought about a religious inclination in the minds of the people.

Thus, Dharma serves you a song for every mood. What’s your mood today?

Happy Birthday Emraan Hashmi

It calls for a gaiety celebration for actor Emraan Hashmi who turns 36 today. The dashing hunk of Bollywood is the heartthrob of many, and we are sure that each one of his fans is digging the internet for news around his birthday.

With a stream of successful movies and a set of action-packed performances, Hashmi is one of those few actors who has proved his worth with time and has emerged as a go-to actor for challenging roles. We know him for many remarkable roles, but the one as Nikhil Abhyankar in the recently released ‘Ungli’ was commendable. His role is that of a cop who thinks like a criminal, and this is where lies the catch! He joins the Ungli gang, a group of four friends, to expose corrupt officials in their run to cleanse the system.

Beyond doubt, the audience could relate to his acting, and hence, appreciated his performance a lot.

Dharma Productions wishes the actor a fantastic birthday. May luck favor him in all his future endeavors!

Relationships beyond Love

One of the blessings we cherish in life, is about having those relationships that add meaning to our lives. Those relationships that go beyond the conventional definition of love.

We treat people as friends. Sometimes it is beyond just friendship when we fall in love with them, and then there is a special kind of relationship that is more than friends and less than a sizzling love chemistry. It takes years to build such relationships that thrive on mutual support and understanding, and after a certain point emerge as life support systems. They are there for you, no matter what and when. Isn’t that comforting to know?

One such classic example is the relationship between Rahul (Imran Khan) and Riana (Kareena Kapoor) from ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’. Rahul and Riana meet at a psychologist’s office and their story kicks off from the clinic taking a pause at their drunk-wedding at Las Vegas moving on to something more substantial. What follows is the tu-tu main-main found in the nascent stages of what you can call a lifetime relation between the two.

Having annulled the marriage, Rahul and Riana decide to move on with their lives but it is not as easy for Rahul as he is already falling in love with Riana. He is heartbroken to know she doesn’t feel the same way for him, but both nonetheless, decide to remain friends for a lifetime. Now, that is what is called a relationship beyond love. A promise made from the heart, to belong with each other forever.

So here’s to all such relationships that make life worthwhile. Do you have such a friend?

Colours of Dharma – Friendship

Friends are like rainbows, always there to cheer you up after a storm. Dharma Productions has witnessed quite a few rainbows sparkle along with all the thunder and rain waterworks. Here are 5 types of friendships our Dharma characters shared on screen...

1. The “I love you so much I’d do anything for you...” buddy
The camaraderie Kunal and Sameer shared in the film Dostana is testament to the kind of bromance only these two are capable of!

2. The Wingman
Aman sharing lessons in love with Rohit is simply the nicest thing anyone would do for a friend. They grew so close, that even Kanta ben began to doubt if they were... err... more than friends! When was the last time you were a wingman for your buddy?

3. The Masti wale buddies
We all agree that college is no fun without your besties. And who better to know this than Poo herself? We see her marching around with her little entourage and having a ball of a time in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... Honestly, can you imagine sitting through boring lectures without your gang around to do some masti with?

4. The One in a Million friend!
Rahul and Riana in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, share a special kind of friendship. A friendship that is too precious to let go no matter what the odds. On the plus side, you can always get a free haircut when you have a super stylist friend like Riana!

5. The BFF for life!
We all have had our share of cheating at games when we were kids, no? And most of us may have surely learnt a thing or two from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Rahul and Anjali ushered in a new era of friendship when they played a game of Basketball in their own quirky style. By that we mean, Rahul cheating at the game and Anjali yelling “Rahul is a cheater!”

If there’s one thing we can take away from Dharma films, it’s got to be the fact that friends are awesome! They are always around to support you, love you and cheer you up when you’re down. If you know a friend that fits the description of any of the above, do share the joy and tag them in the comments section! Here’s to friendship, cheers!
