Happy Birthday to the one and only Karan Johar

For him, life as a director didn’t just happen; it took years of dedication and diligence. Truly, Karan Johar has come a long way to have his presence felt in Bollywood, and all his movies speak volumes of his caliber as an ace filmmaker.

A successful director, an ardent fashion-lover, a mastermind at pop culture, a diligent judge in reality shows, the best friend of the top faces in Bollywood, and now, a classy actor, Karan sure is a man with many talents and his personality has something for each one of us to learn.

Starting off as an assistant director to Aditya Chopra’s ‘DDLJ’, Karan has worked his way up the ladder of fame with timeless movies such as ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', 'My Name Is Khan' and 'Student Of The Year'. Didn’t we absolutely love each of these movies!

There’s a reason all his movies are runaway blockbusters, as he once said, “I firmly believe that emotions are universal, and I know that when they connect with the audience, it works.”

For someone who has valued relationships far more than professionalism, Dharma Productions wishes Karan Johar immense luck, happiness, and several blockbuster movies that live in the hearts of the audiences for a lifetime.

A Song For Every Mood

Human emotions are cherished at Dharma. The movies are known to highlight human emotions in ways that connect with people at a deeper level. One aspect that helps make this deep connect is the songs. And Dharma movies have one for every emotion. We pick out five such songs whose lyrics and music made you go on that emotional rollercoaster ride.

Chaandaniya

The love story of Krish and Ananya is perhaps aptly described in this song. The pain of separation is hard to bear and any couple who has been a part of such a situation could relate to the lyrics of the song. The tears in Krish’s and Ananya’s eyes are sure to make you sad. But, that’s the impact that the song has on you.

Suraj Hua Maddham

There is hardly a love story that is as intense as the one between Rahul and Anjali in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The young and vibrant Rahul romancing the vivacious Anjali is a sight most moviegoers still behold. And when ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’ was played, that fact was imprinted on people’s mind. Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik’s mesmerizing voice captivated the young and old.

Where’s The Party Tonight!

Every generation in Bollywood has had a party song of their own. KANK gave the current generation one when ‘Where’s The Party Tonight?’ came out. The DJs had it on their system and so did the general public. The duo of Rhea and Rishi showed how to part hard and have a ball as they grooved to the song’s tune.

Maahi Ve

In India, music and weddings go hand in hand. Over the years, many songs have been danced to during various wedding ceremonies. But, ‘Maahi Ve’ made sure that not just individuals but the entire family shook a leg or two and joined in the fun. The catchy lyrics and the peppy music provided a lethal combination to set people free of their inhibitions.

Deva Shree Ganesha

Lord Ganesha is one of the most loved Gods in the country. And Ajay-Atul’s composition ‘Deva Shree Ganesha’ captured the fervor of a religious activity to perfection. The song was played over and over again during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi and brought about a religious inclination in the minds of the people.

Thus, Dharma serves you a song for every mood. What’s your mood today?

Happy Birthday Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan, one of the most popular and celebrated stars in Bollywood, turned 49 on November 2nd. A large number of his ardent fans turned up outside Mannat (his residence) to wish King Khan. The acclaimed actor made sure he did not let his fans down; he greeted and thanked them for their wishes.

We at Dharma productions had a very interesting and innovative activity on Facebook and Twitter called #SRKTaughtUs. We shared
various inspirational and comic dialogues from all his films throughout his acting career. These activities also gained a lot of publicity via various press releases in the The Hindu and The Indian Express. Dharma presents ‘best moment with Shah Rukh Khan’ spoke about some of the memorable moments we had with SRK. Inspirational dialogues like “Zindagi mein kuch banna ho, Kuch hasil karna ho, Kuch jeetna ho, to hamesha apne dil ki suno, Aur agar dil se bhi koi jawaab na aaye To apni ankhein band karke apne Maa aur Baba ka naam lo.” This dialogue from the film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ is what most of us SRK fans have grown up on listening to it time and time again, and the confidence it has instilled in us.

As a special treat on his brthday, we have created a special playlist with all his famous dialogues and scenes from his films. Go back in time and reminisce about the old memories of how it meant to fall in love with your true love.

Do you remember the young, vibrant and naughty Rahul Khanna (SRK) from the film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’? It was so charming to watch him as he worked his magic on all the girls at college and how he portrayed himself as the Ladies Man! In the film ‘My Name Is Khan’, we see SRK play the role of an autistic person who is branded as terrorist only because of his name. One can actually notice the versatility that this great actor possesses. From doing a role of a crazy happy-go-lucky college boy to that of an autistic person is simply amazing and will keep you wondering, what does this actor have that others don’t.

Join us in celebrating another great year of King Khan and tell us your favourite SRK moments in the comments below.

A twisted story of love & relationships

If you ever thought that you already have that perfect love story that you`ve always dreamed of, think again. Everything in this world is not what it seems to be. Love is not always hunky dory all the time, there are certain times in life when a marriage can have its flaws, but it’s up to you and your partner to sort everything out. Something on a similar basis can be seen in the film ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ which is a twisted story of love & relationships.

Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) lives in the United States of America and is a foot ball player. He is married to Rhea (Preity Zinta), who works and models for a fashion magazine. Dev fractures his leg, becomes handicapped and dependent on Rhea. He stays at home all the time and broods on his ill-luck. This causes a lot of heated arguments between the two and Rhea accuses Dev of being jealous of her success and what a bad example he is setting for their son. Rishi on the other hand is very frustrated as he is unable to express his love towards Maya and also resents the fact that Maya is infertile. Due to this Maya is unable to reciprocate his love because of the lack of feelings towards him, as she believes he is very selfish. This causes a drift in their relationship.

The film focuses on how the two couples have an imperfect relationship, and how they try to avoid the issues by having an extra-marital affair. They believe that taking this step will sort out all their problems. However, this distraction just turns out to be a temporary solution, which makes it even worse as it results in raising doubts in their partners’ minds. They say that no relationship is perfect.

A marriage always has its ups and downs, and true love doesn’t always come your way the way you imagined. It is something that becomes stronger when a couple has a give and take relationship, when they understand each other’s difficulties and work towards a common solution and when they have absolute faith in each other’s lives whether it is at home or outside at work.

Watch the film to find out what happens when Rhea and Rishi find out about their respective partners’ infidelity.

Happy Birthday Amitabh Bachchan

Having starred in over 180 films in a career spanning more than four decades, Amitabh Bachchan continues to hold sway over millions of his fans with his rich baritone on the big screen. The megastar was born to Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan in Allahabad on October 11, 1942. Bachchan is one of the busiest actors in Bollywood thanks to his knack for adapting and reinventing himself to the demands of showbiz.

Big B’s versatility as an actor has given us many memorable moments through his films with Dharma Productions. We see him play the role of Police Officer Vijay in the 1980 ‘Dostana’. We then see him play the role of Vijay Chauhan, a Man seeking revenge for his father’s death in ‘Agneepath’. His pivotal role as a rich businessman who is a father to two sons in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...’ was one of the key elements in making the film such great success.

Finally we see him play the role of a fun-loving father, Samarjeet in ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’. Amitabh nails it with a performance that carefully treads the fine line between old perv and naughty senior. It is to his credit as an actor, that he can switch from playful to prophetic, as he offers those words of wisdom that eventually become the direction that the cheating couple take in the film.

Amitabh is an actor that wishes to continue his innings in acting with the same enthusiasm that he started with. "The wish is that something challenging comes up everyday... I will continue working till there is strength in my body," says Big B.We would like to wish Amitabh Bachchan a very Happy Birthday with many years of splendid films ahead! Do share some of your favourite Amitabh Bachchan scenes from our Dharma films in the comments below.

8 years of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna!

8 years ago, we celebrated the release of our film, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. The film boasted of a star studded cast, that included Bollywood Superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, along with Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and Kirron Kher. After the success of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Karan Johar’s third directorial venture touched the topic of extra marital affairs.

Is love about righteousness alone? Was Dev supposed to pull through a terrible marriage? Was Maya expected to compromise because of her marriage in spite of finding love in the form of Dev? Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna explores a journey of love that goes beyond the boundaries of righteousness

You might not agree with the character’s stance in the movie; they break societal barriers. But in the end love triumphs over all. The biggest success of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was the fact that the film became the highest overseas grosser when it released, and the love kept growing. Today, as we celebrate the 8thanniversary of its release, all we want to say is keep the love coming and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna!

Split between heart and mind?

As the title suggests, so was the story of Dev and Maya!

There are times when we think / pretend we are happy when we are not. However, we find it difficult to accept the truth and plan to live with it, not realising that it’s not only bothering us, but also the people around us. Though difficult, it is wise to accept things as they come and find a way to live with it rather than running away from it. Dev and Maya too were the victims of misconceptions & misunderstandings. They believed that their incapability made them weaker in front of their better halves Rhea & Rishi respectively.

It was fate, who bought Dev and Maya together, but it might have been faith that could have let Dev & Rhea and Maya & Rishi live happily ever after.
