Finally, a villain you will fall in love with!

Sanjay Dutt garnered appreciation from all quarters for his wicked smile, puffed-up eyes and malicious appearance in ‘Agneepath’. However, he admits that his 'villainous' act scared him as well. In Karan Johar's Agneepath, Sanjay essays the role of the villainous Kancha, a reprisal of the equally villainous ‘Kancha Cheena’ made notorious by the inimitable Danny Denzongpa in the original movie, while Hrithik Roshan  reprises the role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan.

Dutt’s Kancha is shown as a wicked bald man who dons a black Dhoti Kurta, with an overpowering physique, tattoos on his arms, a silver ring on top of his left ear and sporting a black Dhoti Kurta. This menacing look of Sanjay Dutt in the film was painstakingly created to meet the director’s expectations. Karan Malhotra admits that Kancha’s look was designed keeping Marlon Brando’s ‘Apocalypse Now’s’ bald look in mind, Sanjay however respectfully disagrees. Other than the earrings that Brando’s Colonel Walter E Kurtz doesn’t wear Sanjay points out that Kancha doesn’t even have eyebrows and eyelashes. Sanjay was initially supposed to go in for prosthetics but when the make-up started melting in the heat of Diu, he decided to shave his head for the first time in his life.

The bald look instantly became an eye catcher in the film’s first promos, as did the dialogue, ‘Vijay Deenanath Chauhan ko marna padega’ (Vijay Deenanath Chauhan has to die), followed by vile laughter. Dutt admits that he was inspired by Jack Nicholson’s Joker in Batman and it was on his mind when he was working on Kancha‘s laugh. In an interview, Sanjay also admitted that during dubbing for the film he needed to take a break because he couldn’t see himself like this, his own portrayal of Kancha left him disturbed! Sanjay says, “Our film is not a remake but a tribute to Agneepath and its director Mukul Anand. It’s Karan Malhotra’s vision and story. It took guts for a debutant director to take on an iconic film, but he’s come through with flying colours. He even made life simple for me by sketching out Kancha perfectly.”

Everyone who’s seen the film will agree that Kancha is one villain you will grow to love, simply for the iconic way in which Sanjay Dutt has pulled off the role. For someone who has always played the more heroic roles, this was a first for Sanjay Dutt and he certainly deserves applause!

The mighty antagonist!

Vijay’s quest to conquer Mandwa was a tough journey. He not only had to fight Kancha but also topple him and his army. The people of Mandwa were extremely scared of Kancha. His looks were an extension of his dangerous image. His physical strength could crush down any opponent. He was a ruthless murderer who wanted to rule Mandwa single handedly and not let anyone challenge him.

Agneepath is the story of Vijay going head over heels to win Mandwa from the dead evil Kaancha.

Hrithik’s stunning Agneepath look

With the first look of Agneepath out, Hrithik Roshan, who is trying to recreate the magic of Amitabh Bachchan's iconic character, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, has stunned everyone with his muscle display. According to Hrithik’s trainer, Satyajit Chaurasia, Hrithik was required to have a mature look in the movie which would compliment Sanjay Dutt’s looks.

It took six months for Hrithik to get the desired look for the movie. Two body parts were worked upon everyday to get muscle sharpness so as to add to the “Wow” factor. Hrithik was on a no-sugar, low-salt and oil, high-protein (one chicken and 15 egg whites every day) diet.

The movie directed by debutant director, Karan Malhotra, is almost complete and 30 days of shooting are left for the last schedule that will begin at the end of July, or the beginning of August.

Hrithik to be the new ‘Angry Young Man’

When you hear the word ‘Agneepath’, all that comes to your mind is the angry young man Amitabh Bachchan, Mandwa village and Big B’s famous dialogue “Vijay Dinanath Chauhan”. However, in 2012, Bollywood lovers will get to see a brand new Vijay Dinanath Chauhan. The much talked about and admired character will be played by Hrithik Roshan in a remake to be produced by Karan Johar.

The shooting for the movie is complete and is all set to release on January 13th 2012. Hrithik, who recently returned from Diu after completing a month long shooting, has put in huge amounts of hard work in the film. It’s well known that Hrithik and Priyanka Chopra, who will star together onscreen for the second time after Krissh, were injured on the sets. There will be a lot of expectations from the remake of the 90’s super hit flick but Hrithik, however, says that he liked the script and so he did it. ‘Agneepath’ is just another film for him and he is not taking it as a big remake.

The film will also cast Sanjay Dutt as the main villainous character of Kaancha Cheena; however, the character played by Mithun Chakraborty in the previous Agneepath is no more there in the remake.
