Karan & His Fresh New Brigade!

For a while no, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has been allocating a number of projects to first or second time directors to kick-start numerous films.
The journey started way back in 2008 with TarunMansukhani’s directorial debut ‘Dostana’, followed by Rensil D’Silva’s ‘Kurbaan’… then came a series of successful projects like Ayan Mukherjee’s ‘Wake Up Sid’, Siddharth Malhotra’s ‘We Are Family’, Punit Malhotra’s ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ and now in production, Shakun Batra’s ‘Short Term Shaadi’& Karan Malhotra’s ‘Agneepath’. Also, the news about Dostana 2 & Koochie Koochie Hota Hai has been having rounds in the industry for quiet some time now.
When asked about venturing into such wide verticals & experimenting with so many new talents, Karan explains, “Believe me; it’s not difficult at all. All of you have to do is follow a three point ‘mantra’ – ‘Delegation’, ‘Outsourcing’ and ‘Trust’. Along with that, if you have the right vision and infrastructure in place, which we do have in Dharma Productions, it isn’t difficult to crack it all .That’s the way you manage things and I have been fortunate enough to have a team with which it has become possible to helm number of projects at the same time”.
One surely wonders as to what motivates Karan to take up projects with each experimenting & twisting the usual norms. To this, the man himself, replies, “Well, we start off with an understanding to make 2-3 films and then they can move on if it is mutually agreeable. More than any written contract, what is most important for me is the loyalty factor. Fortunately, all the directors with whom I am working currently are very loyal for Dharma. I do believe that loyalty is such a rare facet. You can’t buy it; it has to come by itself.”
